Legislators Seek Maximum Sanctions on Iran

“Iran must be held fully accountable,” they say.

One hundred thirteen bipartisan members of Congress, led by Representatives Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Don Bacon of Nebraska, Jared Moskowitz of Florida, and Claudia Tenney of New York, sent a letter to President Biden urging him to hold Iran accountable for its part in regional terror by imposing maximum sanctions and any other necessary steps to cut off their economy.

They wrote, “Iran must be held fully accountable for its continued role in funding Hamas and Islamic terror. We urge the Administration to take all necessary steps to cut off Iranian funding sources. This includes maximum enforcement of all U.S. sanctions, and taking any and all steps to end Iran’s oil trade to China, which currently brings in $150 million per day in revenue.”

They called on the president to increase pressure on Turkey and Qatar “to cease their support for Hamas and expel Hamas leadership that they host.”

In addition, they noted that UN-imposed sanctions against Iran on their ballistic missile program expire this week. “This cannot be allowed to happen,” they said.

The Supreme Leader of Iran has denied any involvement by Tehran in the attacks on Israel. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “We have not yet seen evidence that Iran directed or was behind this particular attack, but there is certainly a long relationship.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and officials in his administration as they consider the request from U.S. legislators.
  • For members of Congress as they seek to reduce support for terrorist activity in the Middle East.
